Not Just a Chimp on the Way to Us
Ardi's anatomy suggested that early hominins were not simply chimpanzee-like creatures gradually straightening up.12 Chimpanzees and humans both evolved since their split from a common ancestor. That means modern chimps are not living fossils waiting to explain our past like unpaid interns.
Ardi's pelvis and femur indicate adaptations for bipedality, while the foot retained climbing features.3 Early hominin life may have involved both ground walking and tree use.
